The Buffalo Mtn Trail will be closed for maintenance starting this week. Everyone please pass the word around. We also received some positive news from the forest service that you can read below!
Trails Unlimited is here, several days earlier than we were anticipating. They are going to start work at the beginning of the trail and working toward the pinch point. We really need to keep folks off the trail while they are working, mostly for safety reasons. Due to the short notice I was unable to get anything in the paper and was hoping you might have a club group email list you can use to notify folks that the trail is closed. I will try to get the word out in other ways too, but that would really help.
and lastly...
I was on small sections of the BMATV trail yesterday and noticed some of the areas and illegal trails people had been utilizing to go off trail have not been used and are starting to grow up. It is looking much better!! I think this is partly due to the fact users realize the FS is making more of an effort to improve the trail, but is probably more likely due to your organization's involvement and hard work; keeping the parking lot picked up, parking lot improvements, trail maintenance, "patrolling" and in general your membership's high visibility in the area. A big thanks to you and the Mountain Trailriders for all of your hard work and the results it is showing on the ground. It is a huge reward for me to see positive results from the huge effort put forth on everyone's part to turn the BMATV trail and resource around.
Thanks again!!!
Cheryl

The Vision of the MTN Trail Riders Association
Motorized trail riding is a sport that has suffered from negative public perception in the past due to a variety of factors, including misinformation, negative stereotypes, and even the actions of a few bad apples. This perception has led to the closing of trails and an overall negative public opinion of our sport. Our vision is to change this for the better through positive interaction promoting our sport with forestry officials, members of local and state government, and the overall community.

May 23 Special Thanks!
We would like to thanks all of the riders who came out for the poker run on Saturday. Even though we had limited access to the facilities because of a last minute schedule change to the motocross series we still had a good time and were able to test our race scanning equipment. We were not able to use the kids poker run course because it was to close to the motocross track but there will be plenty more poker runs in the future . Also thanks to all the members who helped put the event on!"

Yamaha Grant Work on Buffalo Mountain 2/26/11
We had a great work day at Buffalo Mtn on Saturday. We set 4 light poles in the parking lot to mount the lights and security cameras. We set a bear proof trash can next to the loading ramp. We also removed several bags of trash. We rented a mini excavator with a rock hammer and busted several large rocks out of the pinch point making it easier and safer for less experienced riders to cross. We also fixed one other bad spot in the trail. This work almost completes our Yamaha grant projects. It took a great effort to coordinate all of this work in one day. Thanks to everyone that was involved and to those that came out and helped. Special thanks to those that donated heavy equipment, tools, and trucks to get the job done. Be sure to check out the photo gallery for work day pictures.

February 2011 Rock Project
Great news for the MTN Trail Riders Assoc. We have entered another contract agreement with the Forrest Service. This will be another rock project. Details are as follows: The hours requested for the project are 12.5hrs at $40 per hour, making the total $500 for the club. We are to deliver two dump truck loads of large rock. Then Trails Unlimited will be placing the rock in various places on the trail. Being offered another project from the Forest Service is a great testament to our working relationship. If anyone is interested in volunteering to help with this project, please contact Sam White-Vice President - MTN Trail Riders Assoc. @ 423-329-4219. We hope to get this project completed by the end of February.

This project includes installing lights in the parking lot at the Buffallo Mtn. atv trail head, a bear proof trash can, installing flexpost with proper markings for the trail, and providing trail maps. Aug. 9th, 2010, we received a letter from Yamaha and this is a brief description of what it said...
